Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

I know..I know..it is too late to talk about the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. But have you seen any high quality pictures lately from the opening ceremony?

Well, no. I did not go to Beijing. What I am going to do is share with you some brilliant images I have found. Go here to The Boston Globe to view the images. Enjoy!

Merdeka!

31st August comes and gone. This day is when we celebrate the independence of my country from the British colonial rules. It has nothing to do with the formation of Malaysia though. The exact date is 16th September. Nevertheless, we have celebrated this day for 51 times.

This year's celebration, or lack thereof, is so much muted. With so much issues and uncertainties surrounding us at the moment, I think it has somewhat affected our emotions. But hey! I am not here to tell you sad stories. Let's get down to business.

For the 2 weeks leading up to 29 August, there is an international Fireworks Competition being held in Putrajaya. This time I have the chance to join my 2 other photographer friends to capture the colourful fiesta.

We reached early that Friday night (29 August). We camped there for like 45 minutes, just to make sure we are at the correct location and top of the crowd. The fireworks started right on time, but with all our preparations we pointed at the wrong spot. Hahaha!

After some minor adjustments, I present you with these (WARNING! Big images. Click on the image for even bigger ones):

That's all folks! Believe me this, you have to be there to really appreciate the performance.

The 3 Stooges

CRW_4678

They were not offering any PC related hardware in PC Fair, but the 3 of them combined occupied the largest area at the exhibition hall at the lower floor. Not to mention the most promoters too.

Who are they? Digi, Maxis, and Celcom...the 3 main service providers in telecommunication.

This picture is just a candid shot of the 3 distinctively coloured balloons overlapping one another. I think I could get a better angle from the top. But alas, the mezzanine floor is prohibited for visitors.

Red Cliff (赤壁) in PC Fair

Well, not the movie...it's the online gaming counterpart of the latest movie by John Woo. MMORPG is gaining popularity in Malaysia, with the setup of few game companies just to target this area.

As usual, the promotion is not complete without a couple of real-life characters from the game.

RedCliff1

The warrior is supposedly a general called Zhao Zilong (赵子龙), while the lady is Xiao Qiao (小乔).

If you have not seen Red Cliff the movie, I fully recommend you doing so. I can't say the same for the game though (as I personally do not like MMORPG genre games).

PC Fair

Huh, it's been this long since my last posting. How long? 2 and a half months to be exact. I am NOT going to give any excuses here for being lazy to update my blog....what with so much distractions during my AWOL. Euro Cup (Yeah! Spain won!), political drama, I got myself a new game (Race Driver:GRID),...

Where should I re-start? After stopping for that long, it is hard to get back the momentum. Ahh...PC Fair! I think I can talk about that.

PC Fair! It just ended four days ago. That's true for the one in KLCC. Now that the organizer has decided to bring this event to the Malaysian masses, for this time alone they are holding it 3 week-ends in succession. So the bargain shoppers can travel from north to south, and back again for the next 2 weekends.

This time around in KLCC, the organizer has opened up one more entrance. If you have been to one before, you should know the ordeal. One entrance, one exit. And everybody had to queue up to get inside. But this time, they opened another entrance at the lower floor. This is a brilliant idea actually. They should have thought of that for the past PC Fairs. It is brilliant because it allows direct entry to the bargain booth at the lower floor. The regulars and new to PC Fair will follow the big crowd up to 3rd floor to the main entrance. So if you are not interested with the main exhibitors' wares at the top floor, this is a godsend.

Wares! As usual, the bargains were hard disks, printers, thumb drives, etc. You could get 500GB portable HDD for RM500!! Around RM90 for a 8GB thumb drives! What did I get then? Ha! Just a box of DVD-R's and CF cards.

See you next post! Pictures to come too...

Hibiscus Park, KL (Part 2)

hibiscus1As promised, this the 2nd part of my trip to hibiscus park.

At first arrival, you would not have any impression that you have stepped into the hibiscus park. There is simply no distinction between the orchid park and this. Which I think is a good thing after all.

hibiscus2

The hibiscus on the right and top-right has a very intricate petal structure. It sure resembles a lantern, but the scientific name for this is Hibiscus schizopetalus.

The bottom one is Hibiscus syriacus.

hibiscus3

A very orangey rosemallow (another name for hibiscus, though this is the first time I've seen this name before).

hibiscus4

These 2 are from the same family, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which is the most common type of hibiscus you can find in Malaysia.

hibiscus5

And finally a surprise...

hibiscus6

you don't think the 3 of us went there all alone, do you?
